The song has been popularized by Eartha Kitt and Johnny Desmond.

The Desmond recording was made on May 11, 1949, and released by MGM (catalog number 10613). It reached #25 on the Billboard chart.

The Kitt recording was made in 1953 and released by RCA Victor (catalog number 20-5358, 78rpm and 47-5358, 45rpm) It reached #11 on the Cash Box chart of best-selling records.

According to the book, Billboard Top Pop Singles by Joel Whitburn, Danny Kaye recorded a version in 1950; Conway Twitty also recorded yet another version in 1960.
